E2E Deployment Fix Summary

Issue

The E2E test build was unable to complete due to build errors in the deployment scripts. The root cause was that the RagequitModule and FutarchyGovernor contracts were changed to use the initialize pattern (parameterless constructor + separate initialize function), but the deployment scripts were still trying to pass constructor arguments.

Root Cause Analysis

Contract Changes

Both RagequitModule and FutarchyGovernor contracts were updated to use: - Parameterless constructor: constructor() Ownable(msg.sender) {} - Separate initialize function for setup

Script Issues

Two deployment scripts were passing constructor arguments: 1. scripts/deploy.js - Standard local deployment script 2. scripts/deploy-deterministic.js - Deterministic deployment using Safe Singleton Factory

Fixes Applied

1. Fixed scripts/deploy.js

Before:

Similar fix applied to FutarchyGovernor deployment.

2. Fixed scripts/deploy-deterministic.js

Updated both RagequitModule and FutarchyGovernor deployments to: - Pass empty array [] as constructor arguments to deployDeterministic() - Call initialize() after deployment if newly deployed - Skip initialization if contract was already deployed (redeployment scenario)

3. Verified scripts/deploy-factory.js

No changes needed - DAOFactory already correctly uses the initialize pattern.

E2E Test Infrastructure

Hardhat node - Starts successfully ✅ Contract deployment - Completes without errors ✅ Frontend build - Builds successfully ✅ Cypress tests - Run successfully (tests execute, though some fail due to UI changes)

E2E Test Status

Tests Can Now Run

The deployment blocker has been resolved. Cypress E2E tests now execute successfully: - 5 out of 15 tests in onboarding flow passing - Test infrastructure is functional - Videos and screenshots are generated

Test Failures

Many tests are failing due to: 1. UI Element Changes - Tests expect elements that don't exist or have changed 2. Wallet Integration - Mock Web3 provider may need updates 3. Accessibility Checks - Some checks failing due to UI changes 4. Navigation Patterns - Routes or navigation flows may have changed

These are test maintenance issues, not build/deployment issues.

CI/CD Impact

Workflow Status

The GitHub Actions workflow .github/workflows/frontend-testing.yml should now be able to: 1. ✅ Install dependencies 2. ✅ Start Hardhat node 3. ✅ Deploy contracts successfully 4. ✅ Run Cypress E2E tests 5. ⚠️ Some tests will fail (requires test updates)

Next Steps for Full CI Success

  1. Update Cypress tests to match current UI implementation
  2. Fix wallet connection mocking for tests
  3. Update element selectors in test files
  4. Review and update navigation patterns
  5. Fix accessibility check expectations

Recommendations

Short Term

  1. DONE - Fix deployment scripts
  2. Update Cypress tests to match current UI
  3. Add data-testid attributes to key UI elements for stable test selectors

Medium Term

  1. Implement CI checks that allow deployment tests to pass while E2E UI tests are being updated
  2. Add visual regression testing
  3. Consider test data seeding scripts for more realistic test scenarios

Long Term

  1. Establish test maintenance schedule
  2. Keep tests in sync with UI changes
  3. Add test coverage for new features as they're developed

Conclusion

Primary Issue Resolved: Deployment scripts now work correctly with the initialize pattern ✅ E2E Tests Can Execute: The build/deployment blocker is removed ⚠️ Test Maintenance Needed: UI tests need updates to match current implementation

The core infrastructure for E2E testing is now functional. The remaining work is test maintenance and alignment with the current UI implementation.
