Social & Image — Programmable Spending Policy as a Pre-Settlement Control¶
X (Twitter)¶
The phished transfer had every signature it needed. Authorization says WHO may move funds; it says nothing about WHAT the transaction may do. On-chain spending policy is the pre-trade compliance layer for treasury — limits, allowlists, timelocks that block even an approved transfer. 🔗

Multi-party approval answers who may move funds. It says nothing about what the approved transaction is permitted to do — which is exactly how a fully-authorized, fully-signed transfer still ends up in an attacker's wallet.
Traditional finance solved this in a separate layer decades ago: the pre-trade compliance check, the investment mandate, the corporate-card policy engine. A new Finance Professional Series briefing maps that layer onto on-chain treasury:
- A transaction guard as a pre-settlement check the account itself must consult
- Per-transaction limits, rolling velocity caps, recipient allowlists, and timelocks
- Why enforcement at the settlement rail binds even a quorum of compromised signers
- Honest limits: policy coverage, fixed vs. rolling windows, and lock-out risk
Written for compliance officers, risk managers, and treasury controls leads — starting from mandates and pre-trade controls you already know.

Where in your stack does an authorized-but-non-compliant instruction get stopped — and is that check advisory or binding?

A clean modern editorial illustration for a 16:9 banner: a settlement rail or pipeline where an approved payment token approaches a precise mechanical gate that has swung shut to intercept it just before the endpoint — a single object stopped mid-transit while others pass, evoking a pre-settlement policy check. Deep navy and teal base palette with one warm amber accent on the closed gate, soft directional lighting, restrained institutional-finance aesthetic, sophisticated and understated, not flashy crypto art. No text, no logos, no watermarks. Aspect ratio 16:9.
