Social & Image — Ex-Ante Cost Disclosure, Made Mechanical: A MiFID-II Lens on On-Chain Fees

X (Twitter)

MiFID-II asks you to show the all-in cost before a client is bound. Most fee stacks keep 3 copies of the number — app, server, billing — and let them drift. What if the quoted rate IS the enforced ceiling, and the charge re-reads the same source? 🔗

MiFID II codified a principle worth borrowing everywhere: ex-ante cost disclosure — the client sees the real, all-in cost before being bound, not reconstructed from a statement weeks later. The hard part isn't the policy; it's making the number you show equal the number you charge, every time.

Most systems keep three copies of a fee rate — in the app, in a server config, in the billing code — owned by three teams on three release cadences. One drifts, and a customer approves 0.50% while the system bills 0.60%.

This Intermediate briefing looks at turning cost disclosure from a policy into an enforced property:

  • One auditable, on-chain rate source — the same entry the app quotes and the charge honors
  • Hard caps fixed at creation that no admin can raise, plus a company-wide ceiling
  • A consent ceiling: the rate you saw travels with the transaction, so you can never be charged above it
  • Honest aggregation — additive third-party costs shown as their own line, never called "free"

How do you keep quoted and charged costs from drifting in your own product?

A restrained, institutional editorial illustration for a 16:9 banner: a single elegant price tag or ledger line locked behind a transparent glass panel with a fixed ceiling bar above it that cannot be pushed higher — conveying one source of truth and an immovable cap. Deep navy and teal base palette with a single warm amber accent on the ceiling bar, clean modern vector style, soft directional lighting, sophisticated and understated, not flashy crypto art. No text, no logos, no watermarks. Aspect ratio 16:9.
