Social & Image — How to Read "Audited": Assurance for Smart Contracts¶
X (Twitter)¶
"Audited" deserves the same scrutiny you give a SOC 2 report: what scope, what standard, what version, what exceptions? A field guide to the four layers of smart-contract assurance — and what each one genuinely proves. 🔗 #Assurance #RiskManagement #DueDiligence

You would never accept "we passed our SOC 2" as proof that a specific calculation is correct — scope and standard are everything. The word "audited," applied to a smart contract, deserves exactly that discipline.
This Intermediate briefing reads the on-chain assurance stack the way a professional reads any third-party attestation:
- The four distinct layers — static analysis, fuzzing, formal verification, human audit — and the very different guarantee each provides
- Why formal verification can prove things a financial-statement audit never could, but only within a narrow scope
- How to read an audit report: scope, version, findings by severity, and the disclaimer that actually matters
- The "silent tool" failure — assurance theater that reports green while examining nothing — and its analogue in a control documented but never operated
- What no audit covers: governance, key-compromise, oracle, and economic-design risk

When a vendor tells you their contracts are "audited," what do you require to see before you treat that as assurance rather than marketing?

A restrained, institutional editorial illustration for a 16:9 banner: a precise brass balance scale on a clean surface, but rendered so the two pans hold contrasting symbols of assurance — one a magnifying glass over a document, the other a geometric proof-like lattice of interlocking lines — suggesting inspection versus proof. Deep navy and teal base palette with a single warm amber accent illuminating the scale's fulcrum. Soft directional lighting, subtle depth of field, sophisticated and understated, editorial not decorative — no neon, no flashy crypto art. No text, no logos, no watermarks. Aspect ratio 16:9.
