Social & Image — What Is DeFi Lending, and Where Does the Yield Come From?¶
X (Twitter)¶
Your bank already lends out your deposits and keeps most of the interest. DeFi lending does the same thing — lend idle digital dollars, earn the interest borrowers pay — but without the bank in the middle. The catch: no insurance, and the rate always moves. 🔗

Where does crypto "yield" actually come from? It's worth being blunt about, because the honest answer separates real earning from too-good-to-be-true schemes.
DeFi lending is the oldest idea in finance — lend money you're not using, earn interest — rebuilt so no single company holds your funds. Our new primer walks a curious beginner through it:
- What DeFi lending is, in plain terms (no bank required).
- Where the yield really comes from: borrowers paying interest, backed by collateral worth more than they borrow.
- How it differs from a savings account — including the big one: there's no FDIC here.
- How to sniff out a yield that's "too good to be true."
In FairWins' Earn section this is real: you lend idle stablecoins through Morpho, the funds never leave your control, and the rate is always labeled an estimate — never a promise. 🔗
When you see a yield number, do you ask who's paying for it?

A clean modern editorial illustration of a small stream of coins flowing out from an open, friendly vault and branching to several distant borrowers, with a thin return-stream of interest flowing back — a gentle circular loop conveying "lend out, earn back." No bank building in the middle, just an open, transparent conduit. Set against a deep navy and teal base with a single warm amber accent lighting the returning interest stream. Soft, approachable lighting from the upper left, generous negative space, trustworthy and calm rather than corporate. No text, no logos, no watermarks. Aspect ratio 16:9.
