Social & Image — Passkey Smart Accounts: A Wallet You Open With Your Fingerprint¶

Most crypto onboarding still starts with "write down these twelve words." Your phone already has better: the same Face ID / fingerprint tech you use to log in everywhere. We turned it into a real, self-custodial wallet — no seed phrase, nothing to lose. 🔗 #passkeys #wallets #selfcustody

Most crypto onboarding still starts with "write down these twelve words." The hardware to do better has been in everyone's pocket for years — it's the same passkey technology behind Face ID and fingerprint login. The catch is that phones and blockchains speak different signature "dialects," so you can't just plug one into the other. You have to make the account itself a small smart contract that understands your phone.
Our new post walks through how FairWins ships self-custodial passkey wallets, built on the audited, open-source Coinbase Smart Wallet design:
- Why an account is a list of owners — a passkey and an ordinary wallet can be equal controllers of the same account
- How the contract checks a real passkey signature on-chain, using the network's fast built-in helper where it exists
- Why your account address exists before the wallet is even deployed — so a friend can fund it instantly — plus a real bug from a toolkit that assumed the wrong address
- Why "no seed phrase" still doesn't mean "no keys"
Honest trade-offs included: what the on-chain check deliberately skips, and why account upgrades belong to users, not the platform.

If you're building onboarding for crypto — what's the first thing that scares off new users: the seed phrase, the wallet install, or the fees?

A clean modern editorial illustration, isometric style, for an engineering blog banner about passkey-controlled smart contract wallets. Central metaphor: a large translucent isometric vault-like cube (the smart account) standing on a circuit-board plane, its door opened not by a metal key but by a glowing fingerprint hovering in front of a smartphone; from the fingerprint, a luminous curved line (suggesting an elliptic curve) arcs into the vault and threads through a series of small geometric verification gates — hexagons and check-marked nodes — before reaching a stack of coin-like tokens inside. Secondary detail: faint mathematical curve traces and hashed-block patterns etched into the background plane. Composition: vault slightly right of center, phone and fingerprint lower left, generous negative space top left for headline overlay. Color mood: deep navy and teal base palette with a single warm amber accent reserved for the fingerprint and the signature path. Lighting: soft ambient glow with crisp rim light on the isometric edges, subtle depth haze in the background. No text, no logos, no watermarks. Aspect ratio 16:9.
