Social & Image — One Locked Box, Several Keyholders: How a Private Wager Can Add a Referee¶
X (Twitter)¶
Lock the agreement once, hand out a personal key-envelope per reader. That's how a two-person private wager on FairWins adds a neutral referee — a third keyholder, not a redesign, and everyone opens the exact same box. 🔗 #encryption #privacy #web3

A referee who can't read the agreement they're supposed to judge is worse than no referee. That was the state of FairWins' private wagers: the referee was named and authorized on-chain, but the terms were end-to-end encrypted for exactly two players. Making a fresh copy per reader, sharing a password by chat, or handing the platform a master key were all non-starters.
The fix required zero new cryptography — the design already supported multiple keyholders. The new post walks it in plain terms:
- One sealed box holds the agreement; each reader gets a tiny personal envelope holding the key to it — everyone opens the same box, no drifting copies.
- A small public directory on-chain supplies each person's encryption key, with room for a future quantum-resistant key type built in.
- Refuse-to-create: no registered key for a named referee, no wager — never a bet its own referee can't read.
- Honest limits: striking someone from the guest list isn't the same as taking back a key they already saw, and the design says so plainly.

Where do you draw the line between granting access and truly revoking it in end-to-end encrypted systems?

Clean modern editorial illustration, isometric composition: a single large sealed glass envelope or crystalline data vault at center containing an abstract glowing document, orbited by three distinct translucent keys on smooth arcs — two matched keys close in and one slightly apart (the neutral third reader), each key connected to the vault by a thin luminous thread. The vault's surface shows a faint layered lattice suggesting encryption without any readable characters. Deep navy background with teal geometric gradients and subtle grid lines; a single warm amber accent glows on the third key and its thread. Soft studio lighting with gentle rim light on the glass edges, shallow depth, minimalist fintech-engineering aesthetic, generous negative space. No text, no logos, no watermarks. Aspect ratio 16:9.
