Social & Image — Callsigns: A Human-Readable Name That Nothing Depends On

X (Twitter)

FairWins built an ENS-style handle — claim a %callsign instead of pasting 42 characters of hex — then made sure nothing depends on it. A callsign is fully optional and never gates sending or receiving money. Switch the whole thing off and every wager still settles; some screens just show hex again. 🔗

A forty-two-character wallet address is a payment-misdirection bug waiting to happen. The ecosystem's answer is ENS — but it lives on Ethereum's main network, and FairWins runs elsewhere, with its own membership identity ENS knows nothing about.

So we built an in-house handle: claim an optional %callsign and it resolves to your wallet everywhere you'd otherwise paste hex. The new post covers, in plain terms:

  • The optionality doctrine, first and loudest: a callsign is a perk, never a requirement. Nothing on the money path checks it — and a callsign-less account completing a full wager is a test we actually run, not a promise.
  • A plain lowercase-ASCII name format that eliminates look-alike impersonation attacks instead of trying to mitigate them.
  • Commit-then-reveal registration borrowed from ENS, hardened so no one can grief you out of your own name.
  • One name, one address — deliberately rejecting the split that lets a name be silently repointed at a new wallet. Moving a callsign is a rare, delayed, cancellable migration, and no one can ever reassign your name for you.

The result: real usability, with a blast radius engineered to zero. If the naming system vanished tomorrow, every wager would still settle.

Where's your line between a nice-to-have perk and a load-bearing primitive? 🔗

A clean abstract-geometric editorial illustration of a single elegant nameplate token resolving via one clear arrow to exactly one wallet node — deliberately one-to-one, no branching resolver indirection. The nameplate floats slightly apart from a dense core lattice of value-carrying nodes below it, connected by only a thin, clearly detachable thread, conveying that it is an optional layer nothing structurally depends on. Deep navy and teal base, with a single warm gold accent highlighting the nameplate and its single resolution arrow. Soft glow, precise vector forms, subtle background grid, restrained and trustworthy fintech-engineering mood, generous negative space. No text, no logos, no watermarks. Aspect ratio 16:9.
